Transition Workshop Report
SAME’s inaugural Transition Workshop and Job Fair held Feb. 2-3, 2007, in Atlanta, Ga., attracted approximately 150 employers and job seekers. The two-day forum featured panel discussions with members of the uniformed services and civilians who recently transitioned out of government service into the private sector. Representatives from environmental, engineering, construction and facility management organizations also were on hand to describe the types of positions available in the A/E/C and facility management industries. At the Job Fair, participants met with SAME Sustaining Member Company and Public Agency Representatives in private suites to get personalized job information.
International Committee Participates in Peninsula Engineer’s Conference
Members of the SAME International Committee (IC) traveled to Seoul, Korea, in February 2007 for the fourth consecutive year to take part in the Annual Peninsula Engineer’s Conference sponsored by U.S. Forces Korea (USFK). During the conference, the IC hosted a dinner for U.S. and Korean government contractors, and military and civilian stakeholders interested in the challenges facing the Peninsula. Military and civilian leaders from USFK, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)-Far East District, and U.S. and Korean private sector partners met to share information and build relationships between government and civilian personnel, and among U.S. and Korean contractors. The dinner featured Mark Cain, USACE-Far East Division Relocation Program Manager, as guest speaker.
Members from seven SAME Sustaining Member firms and more than 50 Korean firms were present at the event. IC delegation members hosting the dinner event included: Greg Jones, AMEC; Timothy W. Heil, P.E., Black and Veatch; Chris Williams, Chairman, Korea Committee, and Jon Herwig, CH2MÊHILL; Michael Mueleners and Bill Nixon, ECC; Tom Christenson, KBR; and Maj. Gen. Earnest O. Robbins II, USAF (Ret.), and Peter Walsh, PARSONS. Special thanks go out to Pumyang Construction and the Underwriters Laboratory-Korea for their support, as well as to Col. Daniel J. Russell, USA, for inviting the SAME IC delegation to participate again in the conference.
