SAME STRATEGIC PLAN - MEASURES OF SUCCESSFUL POSTS


The Executive Team of SAME Mission Committees, Chaired by Rear Adm. Mike Loose, CEC, USN, met in St. Louis prior to the November Board of Direction meeting.

Following are the highlights of Committee reports on their work plans:

Awards and Recognition

  • Closely monitoring new streamers and awards program since it’s the first year of the new program
  • Developing a 50-year Honor Roll for the SAME Web site and February issue of SAME News

    College Outreach

  • Revised student dues structure to include free memberships for college students
  • Developing a Student Council charter
  • Responding to Posts requesting assistance on student outreach activities

    Design and Construction

  • Conducting an Insurance & Bonding Forum on Dec. 2 in conjunction with Small Business Conference
  • Selected Vice Chairs for design, design-build, construction and communications subcommittees

    Environmental

  • Briefings posted on the Web site
  • Monthly topic-specific calls - ongoing

    Facilities Management (FM)

  • Focus on the “middle piece” of the building lifecycle: maintenance, building operations, utilities, etc.
  • Three focus areas for work identified: communications; education; FM certification and partnership with IFMA
  • Facilitate networking and information regarding new FM technologies, processes, issues, and leadership and management techniques

    International

  • 2005 Northwest and Pacific Regional Conference on international activities
  • Addressing opportunities from President Bush’s $5 billion Millennium Challenges initiative on infrastructure projects in developing nations
  • Once again looking into conference on infrastruc ture on the African continent

    K-12 Outreach

  • Continue with two camps in 2005: Navy at Port Hueneme, Calif., and USAF at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Learning for Life Program
  • MathCounts competitions

    Professional Development & Education

  • Continuing to emphasize PDHs—key to future conference registration and will be a driving force for individual membership
  • Templates are available to Posts on the SAME Web site regarding issuing PDHs
  • Working with Defense Acquisition University to develop Facilities Engineering course

    Readiness & Homeland Security

  • Establish consistent on-line databases at the Post level to reflect the new National Response Plan
  • Revive Fast Start Plans

    Small Business

  • Conducted electronic survey on small business training needs
  • Conducting programs at USACE SB Conference, SAME National Conference and conferences outside of SAME

    Strategic Sourcing

  • A-76 Outsourcing Workshop planned for April 2005 Focusing on such issues as: utilities privatization; military family and bachelor housing privatization; enhanced use lease authority
  • Assisted with Army Modularity Workshop

    Young Member

  • Emphasizing Mentoring Programs with Academy of Fellows; Developing tools for success and providing assistance and encouragement to Posts
